Colorado Trip

So what I have learned in the last several months is that if you blink, time will fly by! My little babies are growing up so fast. I wish kids came with a remote controller, so I could put them in slow motion...and maybe use the mute button every once in awhile.

In May, Paul and I took the girls and we met my brother and his family in Colorado for a mini vacation. Boy was that an adventure! We all had a great time...

so doctors could do tests.
Or give shots.

I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night watching
a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom,
I never held a sleeping baby just because
I didn't want to put her down.
I never felt my heart break intoa million pieces
when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small
could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom,
I didn't know the feeling of
having my heart outside my body.
I didn't know how special it could feel
to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond
between a mother and a child.
I didn't know that something so small
could make me feel so important and happy.

Before I was a Mom,
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night
every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.
I had never known the warmth,
the joy,
the love,
the heartache,
the wonderment
or the satisfaction of being a Mom.
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much,
before I was a Mom.

Hoppy Easter!

Ava was so happy that Edgar the Easter bunny had stopped at our house. Although, I had heard that he had ALMOST forgot. What a disaster that would have been.

Katie didn't really care about any presents. She just wanted the stringy stuff. We'll tell Edgar that for next year.

After church, we went over to Auntie Connie's house for a Greek Easter Celebration!

Ava had a great time with Cousin Jordan.

Jordan and Ava were so exhausted from all the fun that they had to take a break. Life is rough when you are 4 and 6.

OMG! My baby is 4! I can't believe it! Why, why, why does time have to fly by so fast?

Ava had a Birthday Lunch with her best friend, Lindsay, and 2 of her cousins, Duncan & Grady. We had pizza and games at Peter Piper Pizza! Yippeee! Thanks to Paul and his obsession with games, the kids had lots of tickets to buy.....CRAP!

The Mission Call

Ugh...In February my parents decided that us kids could survive on our own, even though I assured them "we" could not! So they left on an 18 month mission in VERMONT! Burr!

For the last 2 years we have gone to my sister, Michele's, house for a Halloween party & trick or treating. This year we were not able to join in on that fun. Ava was very upset she wouldn't be trick or treating with her cousin Megan. She got over it once the candy started rolling in.

Since Katelyn was born Paul and I haven't had the chance to do anything with just Ava. So last weekend the 3 of us went to see DISNEY'S MICKEY'S MAGIC SHOW. Ava, OK the 3 of us had a really good time. Ava got to see some of her favorite princesses and she got to see a little magic too. Can't wait to take her to Disney Land!

Before my maternity leave is over Paul and I took the girls to Michigan to visit his family and friends. The airplane ride there went from 4 hours to 6 very long hours. Our first plane had a faulty fuel sensor and we had to return and board a different plane. Fortunately, Miss Katie slept the entire time. Clearly God knows what I can and can't handle. Ava did really good too, especially since she didn't get a nap that day.

Paul's parents had a great BBQ at their house and they invited some of Paul's close friends. It was great to see everyone.

This year my little Ava started pre-school. Ava was so excited about going to school like her older cousins, of course her mind changed when we actually got there. Mrs. Lunt managed to calm Ava down and Ava had a wonderful 1st day.

Ava is going to pre-school with her cousin Grady. Poor Grady thinks Ava is going to always be with him. I promised him he would not have to go to his Senior Prom with his cousin!

Ava's 3rd Birthday Party!

Ok so it's been a REALLY long time since I posted anything, but in my defense I was pregnant and my mind was pretty much mush. Well...let's be honest, it still is!

My Princess Ava turned 3 on April 14th. We celebrated her birthday at Peter Piper Pizza & boy did she have a blast. She still talks about her birthday party.

Gramma & Grampa Duncan got her this Princess Cake. Ava had been looking at this cake for weeks. Everytime we went to the grocery store she wanted to stop & look at this cake. Needless to say, I had a hard time getting her to leave the store.

I can't believe my little girl is 3! Where has the time gone?
Paul & I are so lucky to have her in our lives & don't know what we would do without her!

30 Weeks Preggo!

Ok, so now I'm 30 weeks preggo!

It pretty much feels like there is no end.

Sometimes I wish I could just "unstrap" the belly,

set it aside and take a nap on my stomach.

Oh how I long to sleep on my tummy again!

Baby Katelyn is doing great! She has a nice and strong heartbeat.

Ava often hugs and kisses my belly and says "I love my sister!"

Which seems sweet...at first.

Then she screams at Katelyn to come out.

I think this might scare her to stay inside!

I believe that your first child is pretty much a test on what works and what doesn't work.

SO, this next one...I'm not going to teach her to talk!

Nothing good comes from it.

Sure, sometime you get the "I Love you Mommy!" or "You're so pretty!"

But that's only 20% of the time and I'm pretty sure he Dad puts her up to it.

The rest is "I don't have too!", "Why?" and "Whatcha doing?"

AHHHHHH!

Easter

Well the Easter Bunny came to our house after all!
It was a close call. He almost forgot!
Miss Ava made out great. She got all kinds of candy, toys & books.

The Easter Bunny sure has changed of the years.
I always had to hunt for my basket and it usually only had candy that my Dad liked.
Funny how that always worked out in his favor.

This Easter wasn't our typical Easter. It was also Orthodox (Greek) Easter,
which is celebrated by my in-laws.
This is were Ava and myself experienced our 1st EARTHQUAKE! Yes, you read correctly!
No, it was not part of the Greek celebration.
We felt this all the way from California!
It was an awesome experience, but would be happy if it never happened again!

WOW! The time sure has gone by fast. I guess that's what happens when you are trying to keep up with a 2 1/2 yr old. Who, by the way, is officially potty trained. Yes, you heard right. It's been 3 weeks and only 2 accidents! I can't believe it! I thought it would NEVER happen. I give a big thanks to the potty Gods. They knew I couldn't handle buying diapers for 2 kids!

On January 18th we found out we are having ANOTHER girl. Yippee! I am truly excited to have another little Princess. Paul, on the other hand, is a little nervous...as he should be!

The doctor says the baby is doing great and has a good heartbeat.

I'm 15 weeks preggers! Surprisingly it has gone by fast. Trying to keep up with Ava seems to make this pregnancy go be faster. I'm feeling a lot better these last few weeks and hope the nausea has gone for good. I'm starting to gain back the weight I lost in the 1st trimester, which makes my doctor happy. Just a few more weeks til we find out what we're having!

Ever since I can remember, it has been a Duncan family tradition to do Gingerbread houses during the holiday season. Well, as the years have gone by. We have gone from who can get the most candy on their house, to who's looks the best and finally this year it was just trying to make sure the candy made it onto the house. We all had a great time BUT we sure did miss Mike and his family. It's just not the same without them!

This Thanksgiving the 3 of us went all the way to freezing cold Michigan to spend the holiday with Paul's family. Boy was it COLD! It didn't seem to bother Ava very much though. She had a fun time taking her baby for a stroll out in the cold with Gramma Prentis.

Trick or Treat!

This year Ava wanted to be Snow White or as Ava says it "Snow Wipe!" At the moment Snow White is Ava's favorite princess. Next to Mommy of course!

We celebrated at my Michele's house all the way out in Peoria! It's far, but we had tons of fun.

Schnepf Farms

Last weekend the 3 of us went to Schnepf Farms to pick a pumpkin for Miss Ava. We thought it would be fun to pick pumpkins, take a hayride, watch some good entertainment and have Chili. Somehow eating Chili outside in 90 degree weather just wasn't as fun as we thought. Fortunately Ava did not have a problem picking her pumpkin and we were quickly off to see the cutest little girls who were all dressed up in their dance gear and shaking their booty on stage. Ava just couldn't contain herself and had to get her groove on too. It was so hysterical. Where's the video camera when you need it!?! Sadly, Ava has her mother's rhythm and coordination. Sorry babe!

This last week, my really good friend Kathi and her new baby girl Keira came for a visit. Ava just loved baby Keira. Keira is such a sweet baby and was a good sport. A few weeks ago Ava jumped off the diving board for the 1st time at Gramma & Papa Duncan's house. Now, every time we are there she wants to jump off the diving board. I can't say I wasn't nervous at first but she has such a great time doing it and believe it or not, my baby can swim!

San Diego Vacation

What do you do when the local news reports EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING for the upcoming weekend? That's right....You get the heck out of town! So Paul, Ava and I took off on a 5 1/2 hour drive to San Diego!

Our 1st stop was Sea World! Paul and I haven't been to Sea World in a long time and it was Ava's first time. She was so excited to go. Her cousins had been telling her about Shamu ever since they came back from their trip. She already knew how to do the SHAM SLAM!

Ava didn't enjoy the soaking part while it was happening, but afterwards all she could talk about was "SHAMU ALL WET!" I think she secretly enjoyed it. Later that night we even dined with Shamu 3 feet from the tank! It was so much fun!

Ava also got to go to the 4D Sesame Street show with Elmo! Where, AGAIN, we got wet. I don't think I will be able to get Ava into a movie theatre any time soon.

Our next stop was the beach! What a day. I think everyone else had the same idea. We had a terrible time finding a parking spot, but we finally got the the beach!

It was such a beautiful day! You couldn't even feel the sun...therefore...I forgot sunblock on myself! I did, however, remember to coat Ava really well, but my back is as red as a lobster. It's 2 days later and it still hurts. I can't believe it. I'm 30 years old, live in AZ and you would think by now I would remember sunblock. Oh well!

It was a GREAT family vacation! I can't wait for Disneyland.

Paul's Surgery

About a year ago Paul was diagnosed with avascular necrosis of the bone, aka his hips are bothering him. This impairs the blood supply to the bone, and the bone subsequently dies. This is an "infrequent" side effect to one of Paul's anti-rejection drugs.

After Xrays and MRI's they determined that his right hip is in the late stages of the disease. They gave him 2 options, replacement surgery or a cortisone shot. So Paul opted for the cortisone shot and seems to have worked. Eventually he will need replacement surgery.

Now, his left hip is in the early stages and last Friday he had hip decompression surgery. Basically, small holes were drilled into his hip to help deliver blood flow. This should help the bone so that it might heal, or prolong the inevitable, REPLACEMENT SURGERY.

I don't know about Paul, but Ava and I are not ready for that!

Our Utah Trip

This last week Ava, her cousins Megan & Ryan, Aunt Michele and I went to Utah to visit my brother Mike & his family.

The last time Ava & I flew to Utah, we shared a seat. I don't think the people in front of us enjoyed that very much so this time Ava got her own seat! She loved it.

We took a little trip up to Snowbird. Can you believe it...Snow in May! This is the first time Ava has played in the snow. She wasn't so sure of the snow at first, but after a couple of snowballs she was OK with it.

We also walked around Temple Square in Downtown Salt Lake. It was such a beautiful day. I can't believe I'm the only one who had my eyes closed. Oh well.

I WON! I WON! OK, so recently I have struggled with getting Ava to use her manners. She can say "Thank you", "Bless you" and occasionally you might hear a "Please", but certainly never "I'm sorry." Well, one day last week Ava had thrown a TV remote and it hit me in the head. Man does she have a good arm. I suppose I wasn't giving her the attention she so rightly deserves, being the Princess that she is. Anyway, of course I was mad and I sent her to the dreaded TIME OUT. You would have thought, by the way she was hysterically crying, that she was being tortured. So after 2 very long minutes, I asked her if she was sorry, she said "yes." I then asked her to say "I'm Sorry." Then with her hands on her hips she simply said "no" and turned her back to me. Well, that earned her a trip up to her room, by herself, no toys or books. So for the next 45 mins we battled back and forth. She wanted to come out and I wanted her to say sorry. FINALLY, as I'm folding laundry I hear "Wawa sorry... Wawa sorry Mommy." I couldn't believe it! I won... she caved! Who needs Nanny 911...Mama's got it under control! :)

My baby turned 2 on Tuesday, April 14th!

I can't believe how fast the last 2 years have gone by.

Ava is such a sweetheart. She loves to have books read to her and she loves to dance. Unfortunately she has her mothers coordination and rhythm.

Although this is Ava' 2ND Easter. It is her 1st Easter Bunny experience. Ava loved her Easter basket with all her treats. She was so excited! Being the cool Mom that I am (ha ha) I allowed her to eat ALL her goodies for breakfast. She was in heaven! Coincidentally, Paul had to catch up on some work at the shop, so I was left with Ava on her sugar HIGH & LOW! Thank goodness Easter is once a year!

Happy Sunday! It was another beautiful Sunday afternoon. So we went to the Phoenix Zoo. I have not been to the zoo in many years and Paul and Ava have never been. My favorite was people watching (of course) and the Zebra's. Ava loved the little monkeys the Baboons and ever annoying pigeons eating crumbs off the ground. Paul also like the little monkeys. We all had a great time and have decided we will have to go back soon, before the scorching heat arrives. We finished the day off having dinner at the Ashton's and playing the board game "TryBond." I'm not so good at it. Even my 8 yr old nephew, Cooper, is better than me. I think next time I'll stick to playing Old Maid. Thanks for a great dinner Miranda!

Well, I'm a week late posting this. Nonetheless, here it is. Last Sunday was such a nice day. The weather was great and all my chores where done...seriously MY chores were done. I thought I would be the good Mom and the 3 of us went to Freestone Park. Well, when we got there Ava reminded me that I'm not such a good Mom because I didn't bring any bread to feed the ducks and to my surprise ducks don't just come to you. Especially since there were a dozen other kids who's Mom's remember to bring bread! Oh the drama! So instead we went for a train ride. It was fun. Ava waved to everyone all the way around the park.
